Phone rang (land line) we were in the other room. I said, joking around "It's Mothman calling." (I am such a Fortean nerd.) We always wait for the voice mail to answer before we pick it up. Communicating with spirit -- with non-human entities, animals, supernatural beings -- all the while being very aware of not inviting in negative energies.

Also, Mothman. I’ve never encountered Mothman but intuitively have felt that this being is, at best, neutral, and probably positive. Not the negative evil demon type creature many believe. Some witnesses have encountered a winged humanoid being that is scary and evil and have called it Mothman. I don’t think those are the same entity.

Mothman, pencil, Regan Lee

On FB yesterday Andy Colvin (Mothman’s Photographer, etc.) posted a couple of pages from Nick Redfern’s new book on Mothman; Mothman and Other Flying Monsters: Nuclear Nightmares and Armageddon.

I haven’t yet read Nick’s book (just bought the Kindle version) but reading those two pages had me wondering why Redfern went in that direction. I wonder why no one is coming to help me. I feel something bite the back of my neck. Some invisible thing. The creature is on top of me, something behind me bites my neck. I try to call 911 but the phone is dead. Finally, it stops and I go out into the other room, My mother (who is deceased) is there. I yell at her, “Why didn’t you help me?!” She smirks and says “I thought you were having great sex, as usual, you wanton thing.” I ask her why she thinks that when I’m yelling “Help!” and “Rape!” Then she says she’s the one who bit my neck. I am so angry! She is very proud of herself for biting my neck.

I leave and now I’m on a farm, inside a barn. I’m watching someone doing something, not sure what, but I am uncomfortable. This ferret-fox-kitten creature is lurking around. Things are about to get bad. Then about five or six women appear. They whisk me out of there and we run over open ground. Something is chasing us. I can barely keep up but they help me. We run up a hill that is made of white glass or crystal beads. It’s easy though, surprisingly. The people or things chasing us can’t make it up the hill. We come down the other side; the glass beads are soft, makes it easy for us. Something about the beads repels the others. But he does have a smarmy attitude. Years ago, the golden age of Yahoo groups, I had a group called Paranormal Bigfoot. Or something close to that. Wait, I think it was called Bigfoot Mavericks. So long ago! Coleman emails me to tell me I "should know better" than to promote a paranormal theory in context of Bigfoot, and that he "expected better of me." I'm paraphrasing but that's the gist. The point is, not to dismantle Coleman (as if I could) but to point out that there are many in the field of the weird that will not, do not want, and will expend a lot of energy putting the kibosh on paranormal and, dare I say it? Spiritual speculations. On those, I hesitate because I get annoyed with Space Brother love and violent rays of awareness crap. That's not all there is to the spirit realm however. There's Space Brother Spirit Lite, and the real stuff.

But I'm getting off on tangents here.

<p style="-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(28, 30, 33); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; color: #1c1e21; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 15px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 17px;">

But a memory of something that happened when I was very young involving a giant bird that covered the opening in the roof. A winged, bird like creature. A Garuda? Mothman researcher and writer Andy Colvin has mentioned the Garuda figure (a mythological bird creature, eagle like, in Buddhism) in the context of Mothman.

<i style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: center;">Childhood Memory: Giant Eagle-Bird<span style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: center;">, oil pastel on paper, Regan Lee 2021

<div style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: center;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: center;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13px;">Memory. I bought myself a set of Neocolor crayons -- they are great to play with! Experimenting with abstract creations, and wanting to do a Mothman piece, I came up with this. Just a sketch, ideas, and getting used to the materials. Hopefully I will create a Mothman inspired piece soon.

Regan Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786586311631698822noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541440862994072674.post-79244527566520976942020-01-08T17:20:00.001-08:002020-01-08T17:20:30.949-08:00Colvin: Flying Saucer to the Center of Your Mind

Always intrigued by the dreaming mind.

I'm visiting a parent of one of the elementary students to discuss what's going on in the school. Although, this parent seems more like the grandmother, closer to my age.

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">I'm in her living room, and instead of talking about her kid, she shows me her library. She is so happy and proud! She has four books, all written by Thor something (don't recall the last name) and they're all about Mothman. Thick, heavy hardcover books. One of the things so special about the books, she tells me, is that many of the pages are folded into threes, and you have to pull them out very carefully. Also -- and this is very important -- refold them in a specific way. This mother/grandparent (Margaret something) tells me we've all been folding pages into thirds the wrong way.

I tell her my theories about UFOs, and Mothman -- how I am convinced that all of it exists. There really is a Mothman, entities, aliens, ghosts, UFOs, and on and on, and there are some people who are well aware of that and manipulate this other reality, or concurrent reality, for their own agendas.

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">I am very impressed, and a little disappointed in myself that I've never heard of this Thor person. I tell her it's serendipity that we've met, and tell her about myself. She doesn't seem impressed however, in fact, she steps back a little. I feel like she thinks I'm bragging. I wasn't, just very excited to meet a fellow Mothman paranormal Fortean nerd, like myself. So I encourage her and tell her how impressed I am with her library and I'd like to meet with her to talk about these things. But she doesn't seem to want to do that.

Still reading Lon Strickler's Mothman Dynasty. I had put it aside for awhile --- not because it wasn't good, but just very busy -- and picked it up again two nights ago.

Last night, after having spent a couple of hours reading, I had a horrible, creepy dream. Warning: graphic and violent.

The dream had nothing at all to do with Bat-Man, Winged Humanoids, or Mothman. But the reason I find the dream interesting (if not disturbing) is because, in many witness accounts of encountering this winged humanoid/Mothman, they report having violent, disturbing dreams after seeing the creature.

I also find it interesting that this dream had nothing to do with me. It was one of those dreams that have you go "Where did that come from?!" It didn't make sense; I wasn't upset about anything or feeling ill. In fact, I was having a lovely time on the Oregon coast; a few days of relaxation.

The dream:

I'm in a movie theater, watching a Hitchcock film. (The movie isn't any actual Hitchcock film; but in the dream, it was, and in black and white.) It's the ending of the film; a mother and daughter coming down stairs, with a man behind them. (A sort of Glenn Ford type.) The mother and daughter are both young; the daughter, in her twenties, and the mother could pass for her sister. The movie is sort of a comedy, but also a mystery. Some kind of twist at the end.

Now I'm watching the remake, made in color. I end up at the set, but it turns out to be reality. I follow the young woman into the set, which is a large warehouse. The 'director' is there. Naked women are stretched out on huge wooden wheels. Of course, the 'set' turns out to be this psycho's domain.

The women are all young, and silent. Tied to the wheels with ropes. The director tells them he is going to torture them, but of course, he goes on, it's not real. But it is real!

I am terrified. I don't know what to do. The man cranks the wheel, lowering it into a meat grinder, where the woman's leg is ground, then he brings the wheel back up. He inserts a large nail into the side of the woman's head.

His plan is to do this to all the women, slowly torturing them, before the big ending. Which is to place the women on huge crucifixes, with ropes, then nail their hands and feet into the wood. I am horrified but don't know what to do. How do I save the women? How do I remain safe?

Again, this obviously doesn't have anything to do with winged humanoids. But I do find it strange I had this nightmare after reading Strickler's book.
I found this, and other UFO and cryptid books, score!
This edition is selling around $160.00 on ebay. I think I'll hang onto this for awhile -- I do have a paperback edition of course. But this vintage edition is too nice to sell right now. I like having it around.
It's in very nice condition.
Here is a bit from a piece I wrote in 2011 for Tim Binnall's site at my Trickster's Realm column over there about a conversation my mom and I had about Mothman:
It's late at night, I hear the ocean rumbling outside the bedroom window. I'm visiting my eighty-four year old mother who lives on the coast. We just had an interesting conversation about Mothman.
I brought along Andrew Colvin's new book Mothman Speaks to show mom; (hey mom, I'm quoted on the back of the book and inside!) and she asks me a series of questions about Mothman: just who is he, or what is it, isn't it a series on TV, -- "no mom" -- "Oh, that must have been something else."

I tell her what I can about Mothman, including Colvin's relationship with Mothman and his research, his spiritual or philosophical views on Buddhism and Eastern beliefs, which my mother shares in some ways. I tell her of my own interest in Mothman, even though I've never had a Mothman sighting of my own. Loren Coleman was a guest on last night's episode of Coast to Coast, promoting his new book Mothman; Evil Incarnate. The title sums up Coleman's gloom and doom dark side of the veil perceptions of Mothman. I didn't hear Coleman give credit to Lon Strickler of Phantoms and Monsters, who has been delving into the Chicago Mothman sightings, or Mothman author and experiencer Andrew Colvin. I've ordered Lon's book, but am reluctant to with Coleman's, though, in the spirit of research, I should.
The excerpt below is from an event experienced back in 1971:

I woke up suddenly and saw a black figure standing at the bottom of my bed. It was 8 or 9 feet tall and had huge big black wings and red eyes. I closed my eyes and opened them again and it had moved closer to me on the right side of my bed...I couldn’t scream.
Note the 3 a.m. time -- that is an hour that crops up frequently during UFO, ghostly and other anomalous episodes.Regan Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13786586311631698822noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541440862994072674.post-44034053235648949452017-10-01T10:52:00.002-07:002017-10-01T10:52:14.935-07:00Moth MondayI like it: Moth Monday. I know it's not Monday; was going to post this last Monday, but had trouble with uploading images. So now we're prepared and can get ready for Moth Monday. Of which there's no such thing, officially,but a friend on FB posted an image of the Rosy Maple Moth and joked "it's moth Monday!" So I decided to make it a thing. Moth Monday! Every Monday? Last Monday of the month? Or just during fall? Hmm. Regardless, here are two pictures of beautiful moths.

Playboy has a piece by Dan Sheehan on the Mothman sightings in Chicago. Lon Strickler is cited.

Hunting for the Mothman in Chicago | Playboy: I’m typically a very cautious person, but at this point I was determined to see something, and so against the will of several signs in the area, I walked into the woods. Immediately, I was confronted with the idea that this may not have been a smart idea. My iPhone, as my only source of light, wasn’t so much guiding the way as it was lighting everything like a deleted scene from The Blair Witch Project. After walking for a bit, I was startled by the sudden appearance of two college-aged guys who, I assumed from various odor-based context clues, were in the woods to smoke pot. As unassuming as they were, I was put on edge by the sudden reminder that a large forest preserve at night doesn’t necessarily have to be empty. I was suddenly acutely aware of the fact that I had just chosen on a whim to walk into the woods at night to search for a large mythical beast . . .
